Plush Character Designs
My job used to be extremely focused on stationery products. However, the company that I work for continued to expand it’s product line and eventually plush characters needed to be designed. It started with a line of scented plush characters called Smanimals and has since branched out to include all different sorts of characters. Some of these characters are specific to a holiday theme, while others are not. Some are more traditional while others are more modern and stylized. Whatever the goal, I think all of them turned out pretty adorable.
Smanimals
This was the first set of plush characters I did any designs for. The company wanted to redesign an older set of initial characters they had created. While those characters were great, the company wanted to give them a more modern updated feel and switch up some of the animals in the group for other ones.
The choice of having the plush characters be packaged in tri-fold backing card came directly from the owner. I was responsible for designing the different characters and illustrating the different origin stories as seen on the back of the packaging. These characters came in a large version, as well as a smaller, backpack clip version.
Boo! Buddies
These are some of my favorite characters I able to design. I love Halloween and was really happy to have such a simple, kawaii style for this set of characters.
Under the Sea
Another set of characters that I never thought I would be able to design. This set included a Starfish, a Mermaid, a Narwhal and the Loch Ness Monster. These, along with the Boo Buddies, are a set of smaller backpack clips.
These backpack clips are called Backpack Buddies. Which I also did the logo design for and can be seen on my logos page.
Smitten Chickens
After the Smanimals were designed, the owner of the company wanted to come up with some characters that were specific to a certain holiday. Smitten Chickens, were made with the goal of giving them to a loved one on Valentine’s Day.
They came in multiple colors and were meant to somewhat share an aesthetic with Smanimals to increase consistency within the company brand.
Unicorns
Who doesn’t love unicorns…the four legged Narwhals of the land? Do they have wings or not? It doesn’t really matter, if they’re cute.
